Hong Kong and High Heeled Sneakers

Quick shots from Hong Kong trip! Morning blueberry pancakes my sister makes with vegan chorizo breakfast tacos. Yum!

View from their balcony. Hong Kong harbor. So much smog that day but normally a very beautiful view!!

My sister was kind enough to schedule my niece's very 1st Birthday party the weekend I arrived! She is entirely too cute. It should be illegal.

Quick hike to get great shots of the bay and city.

We enjoyed a lovely brunch on the top floor of a building downtown.

Some street shots. I tried to snag some street style shots but it was SO crowded I kept getting thrown around. Let me just say though, Hong Kong style is AMAZING. I mean check out those red old school high tops!  Fierce. I'm NEEDING a high heeled pair actually.

These to be exact. They are BDG and sold at Urban Outfitters. They can be found here. I'm crushing on the tan pair. Will have to buy....

Love how she pairs with the brown suede jacket. Just plain cool.

This was the wonderful view I had to leave. I will definitely be back soon to visit my sister again. Hopefully this summer before I get married eek!

Love to Hong Kong and to High Heeled Sneakers!!

Registering at bloglovin'...Hope I can figure this out. Then off to packing for Philadelphia!

Packing for the Holiday Hustle

As most of you know, today is the busiest travel day of the year! (So glad my flight leaves tomorrow morning instead of today!) I'm sure you've had that awful moment while sitting on the airplane about to take off and you remember that you left something EXTREMELY important on your bathroom counter. And by extremely I mean medication, underwear, camera battery or even bathing suit. You never know when you'll have a can't-pass-up hot tub experience!

Just thinking about my trip tomorrow gives me anxiety. So to battle the travel panic attack, I thought I would give you some tips I use to ensure I don't have that pre-take off moment of shock when I realize I forgot my charger and now I will have NO. PHONE....FOR 10 DAYS.

1. Decide on the SIZE of you bag. Are you sure this is absolutely a checking-your-bag type of situation? Or could you get away with a carry-on? Depending on the airline as I'm sure a lot of you know, you may have to pay to check your bag.  If you are comfortable carrying-on, it can save LOTS of time and one less line you have to stand in.

2. Know the SECURITY procedure. If you are traveling by plane and are unfamiliar with the security procedure, look it up. If you are carrying-on liquids, gel makeup, etc. THERE ARE LIMITS!! There was a time when I did not know the rules. I was returning from a Christmas vacation with a carry-on. This bag was full of expensive perfume gifts and lotions etc. I went through a VERY long security line only to have my bag checked at the end. To make a long story short, ALL my expensive perfumes, lotions and oils were confiscated. As I was already late for my flight, their offer to box it up and ship it home was impossible as I would have to go back through security again. I ended up losing ALL of these gifts because of my ignorance.

3. Make a LIST. A list can be your best friend. You will, no doubt, sometime in life forget something important if you do not make a packing list.  Your brain is overloaded during the holidays and it is very easy to forget something important to you... or your gift for Grandma...I am making my list at this very moment and I can feel the stress melting away.

4. Pack NEUTRALS. Are you an over-packer?  I used to be until I picked my professional packer of a sister's brain. She's been living in Hong Kong for over 7 years. She travels several times a year to come to the US or to travel to Asia or Europe. She has mastered the art of what to pack. Some people say to pack outfits you put together for each day. Well, I would respectfully disagree. You have NO idea if the weather will change or if you'll change your mind and decide you don't want to wear that outfit. Pack items that ALL go together. Example: skinny jeans, black or tan pants, leggings, black turtleneck, a neutral button-up, a chambray shirt, tank tops for layering, and a neutral colored sweater, a jacket...You get the picture NEUTRAL colors go together and outfit creation becomes VERY easy. Also, I'll say scarves can be your best friend. They are a great accessory that can quickly turn into a blanket if you get cold on those long plane rides.

 5. ADULT entertainment. Not in the way you're thinking, dirty mind! Books, mags or e-readers are necessary. Delays can definitely be anticipated during the holidays. Bring some of your own entertainment to keep you from fidgeting :).

 5. Remember to RELAX. It's the holidays. You do them every year and have survived. Worst case scenario...you leave someone's gift at home and have to ship it to them at a later date. You leave your medication on you counter and have to contact your doctor to call in an extra prescription at the closest pharmacy. Or you have to swing by a department store to buy a couple of pairs of underwear. Inconvenient? Yes, but not the end of the world.

Oh, and P.S. If you feel like accessorizing on your travel day, choose a red lip instead of jewelry or you'll be setting off security metal detectors left and right!

Happy traveling my friends! I hope this helps a little bit!

The Beautiful

There is no doubt that many different women from many different eras have influenced the entertainment industry, the fashion industry and our expectations for impeccable style and class. These are just a few of my favorites. I love them because they have embraced what they have been given.

It is just so easy to get caught up in what's trendy. Oh, straight hair is trendy so I really need to go buy a straightener. These women didn't become icons by doing that. They did exactly the opposite! Granted Marilyn's hair is definitely dyed ;) They made themselves the best version of themselves, embracing every curve, curl, and other quirky bit they may have! I think fabulous ladies are needed to remind us that we are all fabulous on this beautiful Sunday.

Make Up Forever Rouge Artist Intense Lipstick

In the color...Satin Bright Orange. I'm obsessed with lipstick which you will soon realize. Just bought this beauty from Sephora and it is AMAZING!

With ALL my fall/winter outfits it gives just the right bit of color. Most of my clothing is neutral and this lipstick makes anything look fun! (Sorry about the poor picture quality. My camera was in my lover's trunk. Better pics to come!)

It is a highly pigmented lipstick and let me tell you, IT LASTS FOREVER. They weren't kidding when they named the brand. I wore it last night to my aunt's wedding reception and I washed my face before I went to bed and noticed my lips were still a little orangey-red. Well, I was so tired I just went to bed thinking it would be gone in the morning. No such luck. My lips were still orangey-red and there were no smudges on my white pillow case or comforter! I give this lipstick all 5 stars. Plus it never gets on my teeth which is a REAL deal killer for me.

Words of wisdom my friends! Happy Sunday Funday!!

Thailand Engagement

One night under the stars on a Thailand beach my lover proposed to me :) What a moment! I can still remember just what he said. And of course I said yes!

We had been spending the days exploring, taking speed boats from beach to beach, relaxing and soaking up the Thai culture! The food was wonderful and we even took a little trip to the notorious Patong beach one night :)

View from our beach... Beautiful!

 Random Elephant. What a cutie!

Local Thai fisherman...Would love to have such a cool boat myself!

Being very careful with this photo...These were not nice monkeys!

Little did I know that this night would be the night my lover would propose :)

Awesome lagoons were everywhere and we jumped off the boat and snorkeled! Amazing!!

If you're ever in Asia, take a trip to Thailand!! It is so beautiful. Not many Americans but lots of English, French and Germans! Very fun experience!!

The Red Journal

I started this blog awhile ago and didn't keep going because of the craziness in my life. Well, I decided instead of letting the craziness stir in my head, I will put it in my blog.

I have a red journal I keep my thoughts in. I decided it would be what I carried with me everywhere to let me write down the craziness. This would then make it's way into my blog. In a funny way it was the journal's decision to blog! Smarty pants journal!

Among all the stuff my parents were getting rid of while moving, I found this red journal. Small and leather and still covered in wrapping paper. A discarded present. My present. I took it and have begun to write.  It is such a stress reliever!

A few things about me...

What keeps me going...

Inspiration board...

I love this hair and I just love the flower crown! I am contemplating this as my inspiration for my wedding hair. My dress is just pretty fancy and I don't know if this hair is too casual.  But I really REALLY like the contrast of fancy dress with kinda messy hair because YES I'm obsessed with MESSY hair :)

Just to put some some things in perspective...the important things..like COFFEE...well this is what I do every single morning including the weekends.  I wake up entirely too early so I can enjoy my coffee in absolutely no rush.  I am enjoying said coffee in my pajamas. And yes, it is lovely and makes me feel lovely.

I loved this sketch and even made it my computers background. It's just plain pretty.  I love to draw and wish I could do something beautiful like this.  The real artist in the fam is my soon to be husband.  He draws me sometimes :) It is very special and oh so pretty. I love him and the little romantic things he does. My heart melts at the thought of him.

Went shopping this past weekend and have some outfit posts ahead. Hopefully tomorrow. As well as some long awaited travel posts...especially the Thailand engagement trip!

The red diary has gotten me back into this blogging world and I so hope to make fellow blogging friends on this quirky journey we call life :)

XOXO!!

Simple pleasures on a simple Friday

Some fabulous photos gave me inspiration today. To write as I like, do my hair as I like, and possibly cook something with ingredients that definitely don't belong together.

(via Pinterest)

I absolutely adore Charlotte Casiraghi. Not because of her clothes or fashion sense, but because she looks herself. She is comfortable in her skin and knows what she likes. (Or so it seems.) She can be in any situation (according to the photos I religiously peruse) and be "comfortable looking". Whether it be to a gala or when she is riding horses. It is an attitude I admire and wonder if this is her French side ;).

An article I read claimed French women have a comfortable attitude, because they don't care what other people think of them very much.  Apparently there is no word or phrase in French that translates to the direct meaning of "popular" as we use it in American culture. Now I am not one to say whether or not that is true. But perhaps it is something we can ponder on this lovely day.

(via Pinterest)

I stumble upon this camisole during my daily Pinteresting...pitiful to say that yes, it is in fact daily. I can't say no to scrolling through pages upon pages of beautiful photos of paintings, people, clothing, books and more! How fabulous! I imagine putting it on with a glass of champagne and my string of heirloom pearls, only to wear it for the short while it would take me to do my hair and makeup before I made some kind of spectacular debut at a soiree!

(via Pinterest)

My hair inspiration. I have never been a fan of using much time or many products or blow drying to do my hair...I just feel like it isn't really true that if you do all that, you look better. Don't get me wrong, I don't condone not owning a brush or shampoo and having greasy hair. I just think that the tousled look that comes with not taking too much time to perfectly style is greatly underrated and holds a kind of sex appeal that no hair product or heated hair tool can create. (The kind of sex appeal you get from that one perfume you own ;)...all girls have to have one, right?!) It manifests itself through your attitude and your confidence, and everyone around you looks a you a little bit differently. Or at least that is how I like to look at it!

The "I tried, but not terribly hard" look is what I love about this photo, and I had to share with you all! With the changing weather, the heat has been steadily rolling in and I feel any style I try will wilt with the humidity anyway so I am embracing what nature has given me.

(via Pinterest)

When one has a bunch of ingredients that don't traditionally go together, you can always throw it all on top of a flatbread and be done! This is why I have grown to love the pizza. It started with my obsession with Naan bread. Anything and everything I could do with a piece of Naan I was determined to try.  And of those things, the fly by the seat of your pants pizza was my favorite! You can really throw anything on it! Have turkey but no gravy? Brie but no bruschetta? Just pile it high on your warmed Naan! Delicious!

(via Pinterest)

Now for a piece of my antique, past-era heart...Don't get me wrong, the immediacy of today's technology is very convenient for business and for last minute happy hour plans! But there is something about letter writing, and all things penmanship related that is just so romantic. Would Pride & Prejudice be the same if Mr. Darcy was sending Elizabeth Bennet text messages instead of neatly folded love letters in envelops sealed with wax? I dare say no! Pouring your feelings on paper with ink is far more soul baring! Or so I like to think! It takes time, energy and thought. It is a bit of old world sentiments I would love to hold on to! However, I can hardly say I would write a friend of mine a letter to invite her to a wine bar! The planning would take a little too long! But, If I am ever stuck at Pemberly with a dreadful cold and my cell phone fell into the toilet, I very well may pull out my stationary and write you a carefully crafted letter!

Happy Friday to you all and may your weekend be filled with all things lovely and romantic like sexy bed head,  lingerie and handwritten love letters!

Bisou!
